Meet our students: Liz Campbell

In Fall 2024, we’re partnering with St. Philip and Corpus Christi parishes to bring you a series of stories about USI students and local Catholic young adults from our parishes. These stories are shared in the parishes’ monthly magazine, “Come and See.” The stories about USI students will also be included in our Alumni & Friends newsletter.

Tell us about a time your faith has been strengthened in college.

My faith life was strengthened after I began leading my own Bible study. During my sophomore year of college, I began to lead three other young women in a Bible study. This strengthened my faith because I wanted things to go well, so I found myself pouring a lot of time, prayer, and effort into each meeting. This not only strengthened my faith, but it also strengthened my friendship with three of the most faithful people I know.

Tell us about an event you attended with your campus’s Catholic community that was really impactful for you.

The Catholic community at USI makes opportunities to attend Mass and Adoration widely known for their students. During my freshman year, attending weekly Adoration and Mass at Sacred Heart with my other Catholic friends was very impactful. It made me realize that these prayerful experiences could be a part of my everyday routine, and it allowed me to see young people who were strong in their faith life. This inspired me and has led to me attending Adoration regularly and I love inviting people to Adoration and Mass at Sacred Heart.

Tell us about a time you shared your faith with someone.

I work as a summer staff member for Catholic Heart Work Camp where I am constantly given the opportunity to share my faith with Catholic teenagers from all around the country. For five weeks this summer I was able to meet new young adults each week and share my faith journey. I enjoy sharing my faith with campers in small ways like serving them dinner or sharing a smile with them, or in big ways like sharing my testimony or getting to hear about their faith lives in individual meetings.

Favorite bible verse?

“Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.” -1 Timothy 4:12

How we can pray for you?

You can pray for me by praying for my discernment in the path I will take after college and for perseverance in my prayer life.
